450C

Post by vestor_guy » Sat Aug 11, 2012 12:02 pm

I am thinking about selling one or both of my 450's since I don't use them much any more. One that I am selling is a 1978 450C, ripper, brush cab with exhaust. It has been kept in the barn for the past 30 years with only about 200 hours of use. The paint is great and it is a very strong and responsive dozer with 6 way blade. I've dug a couple of ponds, cleaned off some brush and done all the fence rows when replacing the fences.

I got it in 1982 when it had about 1800 hours. A couple years later, I got another 450C with ripper and about 5000 hours with totally worn out tracks. I got deere tracks, rollers, sprokets and idlers but instead of installing then on the second tractor, I swapped everything off the 1978 and put all the new stuff on the low hour crawler.

So that is the story on the 450's.

The 1978 essentially has brand new deere under carriage and the 1977 also has had little use in the past 25 years. The pins and bushings were rotated when the track exchange was made. Both of them are located in Missouri. Does anyone have any guess as to the high and low resale these tractors would have. Neither has any cracks, welds or anything bad and run great. Both are fired up now and then for small jobs. I am not able to take any photos right now.

I just type it into a search engine and look at what the asking prices are from the different dealers, and then figure out if what you have is better or worse than what they have.

I looked around a little on a couple of equipment sites here in MO and the low seemed to be around 9K. Rough machine! The high was on a restored machine at 22K. Both were "C" models. Most of the ones regionally, (Surrounding states) were in the low to mid teens. Given your description I would guess yours to be in that mid teen area.
Just curious where in MO these machines are?

450C's

I sold both of the tractors as a package this morning for $22,500. They were checked out this morning and worked great. I was estimating the hours on the 1978 as about 2000 but it was only 1783. He could not find but one of the ripper shanks so the other two have probably been lost.

I hated to see them go but I'm 68 and probably wont use them much any more.
I just have too many hobbies since I retired. My downfall was acquiring a couple of CNC milling machines, lathe and metal working tools.

The tractors were located north of Springfield. One was on by Brothers farm and the newer one on mine. I doubt that another 450C in that condition or low hours exists anywhere else.

Not that it matters now, but I have seen similar prices in Missouri as Leonard reported- anywhere from $6K for rough 450C at auction on up to $30K asking prices and everywhere in between depending on condition. I have farms in St. Clair and Hickory Counties so I keep an eye on equipment auctions and sales in that area close to you.

It is between Hermitage and Cross Timbers in the northeast part of the county near the Lucas Ranch. I guess I should be somewhat careful about calling it a farm- the area is partially cleared for ranching but my tract is timbered and I manage it primarly for the white oak and hickory.

We are close, my farm is just north of Preston and my brother is east of Springfield.
