Hello all, i am new to the message board. I live in southern Saskatchewan Canada and am looking for a crawler to play with. I would prefer a 430 with a dozer, however would consider all others as well. Running condidition is also prefered however if someone can convise me that parts are available i would consider a non running project. I would also seriously consider a fully restored crawler.
Does any one have any suggestions on where i should begin my search, the internet doesn't provide me a lot a leads on anything within 600 miles.

I would begin by either knowing everything about an undercarriage or have a good close friend that does. That is the single biggest potential pitfall. It is why many sellers list the undercarriage as "good", "plenty left", "70%", and all of the other muck that they say to sell one.
The rest of it is just tractor.
Good luck on your search and take your time unless you have bags of money that need to be unloaded out of your accounts.

Yellow ones not green
I have a variety of yellow deere crawlers from 350's, 450's and 550's from early to late model, inside mount 6 way dozers and outside mount manual dozers for sale. Prices are fairly reasonable, this is something that my dad and I do part time. We have the know how and sheds full of parts, so we like to buy non-runners and fix them back up to good mechanical condition. We don't paint anything or repair seats, we leave that for the new owner and keeps the cost down.
My dad won't part with any that have green paint. We do however sell some of the parts from a few green crawlers that we wrecked. We still seea few green crawlers out in the country side. We get into lots of old farm yards when we are installing rural natural gas utility services and often end up buying alot of older equipment. We work mostly west of Edmonton in the Whitecourt and Edson area.
Most recent find was a month ago, a fairly nice original MC with tool bar hydraulics but unfortunately the dozer blade was mangled.
I usually advertise on Kijiji, but have nothing listed at the moment. Watch for some listings in the new few weeks to a month. You can come out and push some snow for us. We are located 1 hour west of edmonton.
I would recomend watching Kijij like a hawk as they do show up on there from time to time. If they are close to me and reasonable they often end up in my yard. I am not sure if John Deere is a religion or a sickness, but we sure have alot of fun fixing them up and selling them to happy customers. Have met alot of nice people over the past few years.

There are a number of sites on the internet (a lot of them other discussion boards dealing with crawlers or heavy equipment) that have buy-sell forums. That may be a good start.
There are also some conventional equipment sales sites on the internet, although they generally don't have equipment as old as 420s/430s/440s.
Epay and Craigslist have those types of crawlers from time to time but you need to be careful that the equipment is as advertised.
