440icd front mount hydraulic

Post by 440icd » Tue May 23, 2006 2:20 pm

Lavoy, I may be looking for another flange that bolts to the crank that has the splines for the hydraulic pump.
Do you have a good one?
Will anything else bolt up there?
The one I have is a 1 inch 6 spline hole.
I have a different pump on it now with a different spline on it. Kind of a baster type setup. Had to make a coupling last year for it and yesterday spun the splines right out of it again.
I think that there was, and is an alignment issue. How the heck do you check alignment ?
I was thinking of going to a different spline setup, one a little more standard.
Any Ideas?

Thanks
Scott

I don't have anything left. If you can find it, a flex coupling might be the way to go, it would eliminate some of the alighmet issues.

Coupling drive front mount to crank

Post by 440icd » Fri May 26, 2006 10:27 am

Just thought I'd give an update on the front coupling drive system I have on my 440 loader, for the hydraulic pump.
I had set it up last year, with a new pump that had a 7/8 13 spline, and the old drive hub had a 1x6 spline. I bought some parts from the local drive line outfit to do that, with a small amount of machining.
It lasted about a year, so I was on a hunt for a better set up.

I found out that a brand new drive hub, After market, that bolts up to my crank, that has a 7/8 13 spline was $32 bucks, wow brand new, no more 1x6 spline…. ya....
Then bought a used, looks new, 7/8 13 oem John Deere splined shaft that appears to be hardened, for $80 bucks then a 7/8 13 splined sleeve, again a used John Deere part, but looks new.
These were installed on newer model dozers, I believe a 350, but they appear to bolt up, will install this weekend. Found them at a place called County Line Equipment in Fife Wa. ( Oh ya I also got a failure to obey a traffic device on the way home for 101 bucks, I guess you could add that to the total, crap I messed up there.

Just thought Id post up and maybe save someone some time and go straight for the 350 parts instead of the old 1 x 6 spline 440 stuff , and all the unhardened driveline hardware.

Total of about 166 bucks, plus the 101 dolor ticket :( I think I spent about half that on the stuff I put together last year that finally gave up.

Hello, Scott
I was wondering where you found the 13 spline flange that bolted to your crank? The part you said was aftermarket. Was it as short as the old 6 spline?

spline

Hi Sam,

I got that stuff from County line Equipment in fife wa.
Yes I think it was as short.

I believe it was for a 350.
It bolted right up, with no problem. It was pretty inexpensive.
The hardened shaft I had to buy was more expensive, it was splined the full length, and yes it was to long, I have to abrasive cut it to length.
Might be because Iam using a different pump don't know.
But the old shaft was very short; This one that I bought used was way to long. it even had a hole in it for a pin to keep it in the sleeve in position.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I didn't notice your post.

Thanks
Scott

Scott, I have county lines number and plan to call them. I have a pump off of a 350 loader with all the shafts, couplers but the flange will not work. Is it possible that the part you have was for a detorit power unit on a differant application?

I don't think so,
Talk to the john deere guy, tell him what you have, he can tell you what will work. Don't know if the 350 loader is different
thanks
