3315 Winch value?

JMHO: Your winch doesn't look as bad as many that I've seen. They are often all chewed up on the outside where the winch cable rubbed while winding in. Look at your arch. Is it in as good a shape? A good winch operator usually tries to spool the cable on evenly,moving and aligning the machine to help this occur. This reduces stress on the winch, the cable, and the machine. On a 350, this is harder to do than on a 450 with a live winch, so 350 winches are often more abused. That said. If you bought the winch for a good price, it might be worth spending the $800 and having a reliable and safe winch to use. I've seen prices of around $3000.00 being asked for complete winches on pallets without arches or fairleads.

Again, just a thought, recognizing that it's easy to spend someone else's money.

Thanks paul, The top of the arch is bent and the metal is torn. Should'nt be a problem to straighten and weld. There are some gouges on the side where the cable rubbed. Are you talking about the aftermarket control valve for 800? I do want the winch to work as it should and be safe/reliable. I hope i can find the correct valve for it. I started tearing the winch apart tonight, it is not as bad as i thought it would be but, there was some water in it. Does anyone know if the internal parts (clutches , hyd pump brake band) are available? Also the winch had about 20 ft of 5/8" cable on it, does anyone know how much cable it will hold?

I'm pretty sure the clutch disks, brake band, and webster pump are all still available new from Deere, but they cost a lot more than they should

As long as there wasn''t any oil leaking in the clutch/brake side, I think there's a good chance you won't have to replace anything. My winch spent a very long time not being used accumulated a lot of rust on that side and a lot of "snot" on the other side. I was getting ready to replace the webster hydraulic pump, but it turns out that I just had to change out the hydraulic fluid 3 times and clean off the pump's intake screen twice and it works like new now. I also had to take off the lines to the brake cylinder and clutch to blow the snot out of them too. They're both 1-way cylinders, so they don't get flushed out with fresh oil unless you do that. As for the rust on the brake and clutch, it vaporizes pretty quickly once you start running it unless your clutch is seized up.

They're supposed to hold 100ft of 5/8" cable. I think 90ft would probably be more ideal though. I never measured the old cable that I'm using, but I'm guessing it's 100ft because it takes some messing around to get it to wind properly sometimes.

I drained the winch and most of what came out was water. I knew then that the bearings and races were bad for sure. I started taking it apart and it did show sighns of oil around the clutch and brake. I'm going to check everything out good while it's tore down. I think I know where I can get some cable, I'll have to see how much he has.

I located a used spool valve and pto shaft today. They should be here next week.

What it holds and what you want to pull are two different things. I'd buy and spool on enough to meet your needs. Pulling out 100ft of cable uphill is an ordeal, and usually one figures out how to get closer with the tractor; besides on a long pull there are obstacles like stumps and hollows that will undo the best laid plans for a smooth winching and bunching. We spooled on 100 ft for the occasional need for a self assist or a wayward stem, but the first 40 feet rarely got used. Price out the available cable. I liked swagged cables - less broken strands to poke through my gloves. Depending on your use, you might find 1/2" big enough, and cheaper. Others may have different thoughts.
