Hi,

Cylinder sleeve seals are the first thing that pops into my mind. Head gasket is the second thing.

Might me some seepage past the sleeve seals from expansion/contraction from the changes in ambient temperature over the 8 years. Was it a lot in the oil, like it all leaked in there, or only a little?

Later!

Stan

If you had a significant amount of coolant in the oil, you may end up with a knock in your connecting rod and/or main bearings as the coating on the bearings can dissolve from contact with the coolant.

There is at least one person on this board that sucessfully used a "stop leak" additive to address leakage through the sleeve seals but that is not a guaranteed fix.

After you repair the sleeve seals or whatever other repairs you make (and hopefully you have already changed the oil), I would listen for rod knock before you put the engine into heavy service.

If new oil has antifreeze on the top of it after sitting a while or motor oil gets milky after running for 30 minutes than your sleeves will be cavitated and coolant will be leaking into the oil below ,Then it is time for a sleeve kit .All the wet sleeve engines will do this .DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE LONG LIKE THIS you can damage it !!.Digitup.

thanks for the help,i changed the oil 4 days ago and never worked the machine.so i pulled the oil drain plug and about 3 liters of antifreeze came out before i got oil.the engine run great,no smoke or knocks starts easy.i got this machine cheap because the steering clutch were stuck.not looking foward to spending more money.i guess the is no such thing as a cheep crawler.

I'd counsel you to find a used rod bearing from any engine which uses the babbit alloy top layer (garage, racer, etc.) & wipe it with the same mix of coolant you're using in the 450B & leave it for 3-4 hours. I think you'll be appalled at the results of the coolant reacting with the babbit. My diesel mechanic brother told me of it, but I didn't believe until I wiped a main insert out of my '58 Caddy with a rag which had coolant soaked. When I returned after dinner & a nap, the shell appeared to have grown warts which wiped off...down to the copper!!! Seeing the results MIGHT save you from skepticism which can get VERY EXPEN$IVE!
