Need info for JD450C winch - Identify??

Post by cdd111 » Tue Sep 07, 2010 1:26 pm

I have a JD 450C with a cargo wench and arch on the back. I am trying to determine which winch it is and some particulars about it.
There is no name plate on on the winch. It does have a few casting numbers: 27641T, T21208T, and T18800T. It also has a JD in the castings after the numbers.
The wench does not have a filter on the top back end. It does have shifting linkage on the upper back and is driven by the quill from the back of the dozer.
I want to put some cable on the dozer and would like to find out the capacity of the winch and the size of cable with chokers that would be appropriate for skidding. From what I read, it is either 100 ft. of 3/4" or 5/8" cable with probably 4 or 5 chokers.
Here are some pics (hope they come through)

I havent been able to find much on the 3325, the 3310 or the 3315 winches. I think it may be one of those????
There is no name on the arch either.
I still need to put about a 1" spacer between the arch and the dozer to secure the bottom flanges of the arch to the dozer.
Please let me know if any body can identify the winch or has additional info about it.
Thanks for looking

Judging by the left quill, that's a JD 3320 manual winch. You can find schematics in JDParts under 450 crawler (not 450C) to confirm. I don't think they put these on 450Bs or Cs, so it may have come off a 450 straight?

The arch doesn't look like the JD one. Judging by the paint, it hasn't spent its life with that winch or crawler either.

I think 100ft of 5/8" is the recommended cable. 100ft of 3/4" might be too big. I plan on treading my 3325 winch up with a 90ft of 5/8" because I think the there's 100ft of 5/8" (of rotten cable) on my winch now and it seems pretty darn full when not wound just right.

Here's what I'm currently looking at:

As for chokers, it depends on what size logs you're skidding I guess. I only plan on putting 3 cable chokers on my line. I'm sure you could probably make use of more.

Anyway, if you can confirm it's a 3320, the service manual for a 450 straight covers it.

Thanks so much for the info. I will go on the JD site and take a look.
