Finally a 1010 with 616 blade

Some time has passed since I last wrote here but now I got some news...
About two months back I finally got a 1010 with a bulldozer blade. All of my other machines are crawler loaders. So the machine is Germany (Mannheim) built John Deere-LANZ 1010 with 616 blade (manual angle and tilt). The serial number is 10871. It has a diesel engine (I think all European built machines had a diesel?). A 612 all hydraulic blade would be nice but I think they never imported those to Finland (seen some on 350´s in Finland). Only major problem on this machine is shot starting motor (and I have 3 spare ones...so it is not a major problem...) With the machine came a BIG load of parts including 3 motors, another frame (reverser, tranny and rear installed), now I have 3 spare reversers transmissions and differentials...)

Another intresting thing, should there be a 4-bolt pads on all 1010 dozzers?
Because on original German parts catalogs there are pictures of 1010 with 2-bolt (440?) pads...

Sounds like you hit a jack pot!

Starters are not that big of a deal. If you have spares that work, you are set. Replacement parts for Delco-Remy starters are available, depending on what is bad in yours.
Sometimes you also find a bad wire or connection. Due to the current draw, the wires, starter switch, and all connections MUST be in top condition in order for the starter to work properly.
Not the expert but I believe the two (2) bolt chains are indeed 440 tracks.

Yes, the starting motor is no problem, like i said I have 3 spare ones ( Delco-Remy starters: 1108672 and 1107523 and one with "integrated solenoid", in other words the solenoid is inside the starter). The 3 motors that came with the dozer are not in working order, exept one that supposed to be rebuilt (not been tested...). All this cost me ~2000€ (~2718 USD) including 400€ for bringing her home.

And yes in the parts catalog the chains and the track shoes are 2-bolt, but in the operators manual the machine is with 4-bolt tracks

I am guessing that the exports got 2 bolt sprokets and chains. Maybe converted to 4 bolt on later models.
4 bolt will fit on 440's if the sprockets are changed.
My 440ICD in the picture has 4 bolt sprocket and pads.

I have some early studio photos of 1010's with two bolt pads, but in the US at least, they came out with 4 bolt pads.

Yeah, it's hard to say for sure. I want to say that 1010's all had 4-bolt pads.

But then I've seen some 1010's with 2-bolt. I've also seen 440's with 4-bolt. At one time, I surmised that this was a running change, but I no longer think so. I think the reality is that things wound up changed out over time on various machines.

440's are not so hard to figure out. If you have a 1963 revision date 440 or 420 parts book, they show 4 bolt rails as available. This is because the 101's were out with 4 bolt rails, so no big deal to put them on.
The pic or pics I have of a 1010 with two bolt is a pre-production photo of a 1010, possibly even a prototype, so no real suprise there.

Yes! That was it! I knew I remembered something from Deere that made me think that the 4-bolt rails were a running change.

That was it, of course. I have a parts book that shows them.

As you can see I finally got myself a model 51 backhoe .

I am looking for a model 35 or 36 ripper, but I think that it might be impossible to find one in Finland...

In the one pictures it looks like the chains from the crane are lifting the dozer by the tracks by the way they are stretched.

As I mention in the text (in Finnish...) we were in a bit of a hurry and as the crawler had a rock guards installed, it was difficult to find a suitable lifting points... The weight of the crawler cant stretch the chains and I released the pressure from the track tensioners before the lift.

In a fact the tracks are allready shot and they are 12" wide buldozzer tracks (flimsy 2-bolt versions) and go too near to the lifting arms. I have found 10" wide, 3-grouser, 4-bolt tracks for the machine that were originally supposed to be installed on a crawler loader (original 1010 tracks). The best thing is that they have never been installed only 4 pads and masterpins are missing (no big deal...) and I payed 500€ (aprox. 700$) for them In other words I found new 40 year old tracks for the 1010 in Finnland... (what is the possibility of that?):!:
