NEED ADVICE ON 440

FIRST OF ALL THIS IS A GREAT SITE I HAVE SPENT TWO DAYS READING ALOT OF GOOD IFO HERE . HERES MY PROBLEM I JUST BOUGHT A 440 WITH AN831 LOADER ON IT IT RUNS OK BUT NO STERRING ON RIGHT SIDE WHEN YOU BACK UP THE RIGHT TRACK WILL MOVE SOME THEN LOCK. I DO NOT HAVE A MANUAL YET BUT BRAD HAS EMAILED ME AND HOPE TO HAVE ONE SOON .ANY ADVICE ON WHERE TO START WOULD BE GREAT. I HAVE NEVER WORKED ON ANYTHING LIKE THIS BUT HAVE BEEN TURNING WRENCHS FOR A LIVING FOR 20 YEARS THANKS :D

i got my manual from brad guess i will just start taking stuff apart. :(

I would pull the RH final drive first. If it locks up real solid going in reverse, but otherwise drives fine, I am guessing the anchor loop has broken off of the brake band. There are other possibilities, but either way you will likely have to pull the final.

thanks for the response to pull the final do have to remove the track?? never done anything like this!!

yep you have to take the tract off that final is heavy the book shows how to make a cradel to remove it and really be carefull when you put it back on not to mess the seal up. Good luck

Yes, you need to remove the track and I would recommend removing all the hydraulics and fenders. Get everything you can out of the way, because as Howard said, the finals are heavy. Make the lift ring as suggested in the service manual and get something to support the final (gantry or engine hoist), you can not do it by hand.

Good luck, my finals just went back on my 440. It has been a fun project.
