preventive maintenance

Post by lastchancegarage » Sat Feb 11, 2006 7:22 pm

After adjusting the only side that steers on my 440 ICD I decided to take a look at the oil bath bowl. Understand, I bought this in the fall and haven't used it all that much since. :? Anyway, after removing the bowl I found what appeared to be sediment in the center of the bowl. :( I thought it looked pretty bad until I realized I was looking at the top half of a two piece bowl. After prying off the inner bowl, I found the bottom bowl was solid sediment! I doubt very much this bowl had been checked in quite some time. Scraped out the sediment, wash both pieces and filled with fresh oil. Next will be an oil change right after our expected Noreaster blows through. I can't wait! They're talking a foot or more of the white stuff. The adjustment on the right steering clutches worked wonders. Someday I hope to steer left. Later!
