450B engine TDC
450B engine TDC
74 JD 450B track loader.
What is the easiest method to turn the engine over to TDC by hand with engine in frame? Didn't want to use the starter.
Hope the nose doesn't have to come off.
This tractor has the HLR pump on the front.
Injector pump went bad according to previous owner.
Pump was removed before the engine was set to TDC.
Have new pump, umbrella seals and install tools.
Have JD service manual.
Also have stud to place in flywheel for TDC alignment.
Thanks

Re: 450B engine TDC
Just reach in the hole where the little metal cover plate was held in by that timing pin/bolt. Use a big screwdriver against the flywheel teeth. It's slow going but works fine to get the engine where you want it.np205 wrote:74 JD 450B track loader.

I forgot to ask - about your forum-name. Does NP205 signify a New Process 205 transfercase?np205 wrote:74 JD 450B track loader.

Thank you for the reply and advice.

Have used np205 login for a long time.
Since the days before the Internet, BBS.
Had a 78 Ford F250 with NP205 for many years.
Put a new engine in it and gave to my father.
He still uses it on the farm.

Re: JD 450B
I still have three rigs here with NP205s. My 69 Dodge Power Wagon, my 79 Chevy Blazer, and my 92 Dodge-Cumins truck. All the rest have 203s, 208s, and 241s (full time and/or with drive chains).np205 wrote:Have used np205 login for a long time.

JD450B engine serial number
Where is the engine serial number?
Want to make sure I have the right pump for this engine.
When the engine is timed to TDC (pin in flywheel hole), the pump marks on the pump shaft and inside the pump do not line up. Cannot rotate pump far enough toward manifold to line up marks.
I rotated the flywheel back a bit and put the pump on anyway to see if it would run.
The tractor cranks right up, but dies after a second or so.
Is it possible the timing gear moved a tooth during removal/installation?
3+ lbs of pressure from transfer pump.
Both fuel filters changed and all lines/tank clean.
Cracked lines at injectors, can see fuel spraying at each one.
Return lines have fuel.
Thanks for any info.
