1010 Injectors

Post by CrawlerJohn » Wed Mar 18, 2009 4:16 pm

l I have a 1010 Diesel Crawler and am working on the fuel system. The John Deere Service Manual SM2034 has the following statement regarding installation of injector nozzles:

“CAUTION: On all units, ream injection nozzle bore in turbulence chamber with 66 -1183 special tool before reinstalling nozzles.”

Does anyone know what this is about?

Thanks

John

You don't need the tool. It's just to clean the carbon out and you can improve with many things. Main point is you don't want any of the copper gaskets getting hung up on any built up carbon. Just about all engines with large-body injectors have a reamer for cleaning carbon. A long srewdriver used carefully, a plumbing-type wire brush, etc. all will work fine.
