That's a neat one, looks like a 420 in the background too.

Lavoy,

How rare is this crawler? - I have a farm, so having the blade and bucket would be a plus.. How often do these come around? Any issues with the setup that you know of?...

Everyone - Please give me your thoughts..

Thanks.. Mike

I can't speak to rarity- that would be Lavoy or others. I have never seen this setup on an actual machine other than in pictures.

I do have the following observations- maybe Lavoy could comment on them as well:

1) When dozer blade is lowered (Loader bucket raised), it would be very difficult to see what is in front of you.
2) Since the loader bucket is always raised, it has a higher center of gravity and could cause balance issues on slopes (however the weight of the dozer blade may offset that and provide additional stability)
3) The tracks have grouser pads (to get traction for the dozer blade), yet this is still a loader with the increased weight so it would seem that the setup would put additional strain and wear on the undercarriage and drivetrain.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment

I guess I can't say how rare it would be, but I have never seen one before other than pics. I think there were probably a few of them around, but I would bet some time in their life, the dozer blade got lost.
I don't think the dozer would be as handy as a real dozer crawler, but it would have it's usage. One that comes to mind for me is plowing snow, it would work great for that. I can also see for dirt grading and such it would work too. I think if you want to dig a hole with it like you would with a dozer crawler, it would not work too well.
