Fairlead for 8A & 8G Gearmatic winches coming.

Post by Lavoy » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:57 pm

I am working on making new repro fairleads for the 8A/8G Gearmatic winches. Saw the first flame cuts yesterday, ordered some small changes, but on the whole they were fine. I am going to try and make 6 first go-around, about half of them are already spoken for. If you are interested in one, let me know, I will try and get more parts made up if there is a demand.
They will be as close to original as I can make them. The only thing I am thinking of changing is not using bushings in the rollers, I am going to use sealed bearings. They can have 2, 3 or 4 rollers, depending on what you prefer.

fairleads and gearmatic winch parts

Lavoy:
Did you ever manufacture the 8a/g fairleads? If so, can you email me a price for a three roll version (sides and top) - any pictures? I'm also in the market for a couple of "U" cups in case mine ever tear or leak. Thanks. Paul

Paul,
Can't find bearings to replace the bushings in the rollers, so now have to go to plan B. If I stick with bushings, it will double the price at least, so don't want to go that way.

Found a new machinist only 2 miles from me, been talking to him about it. Next thought is to make sleeves and press inside the rollers to size them enough to put bearings in.
All the frames have been jigged and tacked, just need to finish the welding and move on to the rollers.
