555a

Post by cletus » Sun Dec 07, 2008 8:37 am

Hello everyone, I am new to this board. I've recently purchaced a john deere 555a. The first thing on the list is to get a repair manual. My question is, what is the differance between a 555a and a 555? I have located a manual for a 555, book # pc-1464. Will this book cover a 555a or not? My serial # is 555-a-267959T, also is there anything I should check over right away even before I locate a Manual? The undercarriage is in good condition. The turbo is out of it, will need to be replaced or rebuilt, bucket and arms are tight. Thanks

Check the oil pressure and return line to make sure they are open and clean they sometimes plug off with carbon and dirty oil residue and take the bearings out of the turbo.Under some working conditions a turbo will scald the oil enough to do damage to the turbo it's self. Not always but under the the wrong conditions they do damage oil and the lines plug to and from the turbo .Kind of like shotin it's self in the foot .Add in a bit of neglect to change oil at proper intervals and that is all it takes .I found that the big change in upgrade of modles was at the Bs but the up gead on the 550 to 550A in dozers was a hydraulic mod and a smoother shift detent not much after that.My dealer kept telling me the 550A had more torque but no signifigant torque increase was noticed .Digitup.
