I know I'll probably never find the exact # but are there any obvious ways to narrow down the year of my 440ic

I also need some floor boards for my crawler and were there any kind of guards for the rear sprockets

Thanks, Jeremy

First giveaway would be if you have a small four bolt plate under the seat, if so, then you are above 448,000.
I have new repro footrests on hand.
The crawler probably came with sprocket shields, usually they are gone or broken unfortunately.

If it has not been taken apart and parts swapped out, the 1958 would have slanting "440" like the 20 series and the smaller tranny.
The 1959 would have the big tranny, block open or bold "440" letters.
The 1960 has the throttle in the center of the dash that pushes straight up and down.
These are a few details that I use to determine the year of one with no tag.
1959 JD 440ICD w/64 Power Angle Tilt Blade
1959 JD 440ICD w/63 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 440IC w/602 Manual Angle Blade
1959 JD 730D W SE (many options)
1950 JD M S w/M-20 Mower
1952 JD M W
1955 FORD 640 (burns the most fuel)
