newbie with a 450

Post by MoparKid » Fri Sep 28, 2012 1:57 pm

hello all, im new on here and new to the dozer world. Last week i got my hands on an older 450 (plain model) with a manual tilt blade and a 4cyl gas engine. Does anyone have any info on this machine? all i find online is the b model and newer. Shes an old girl but runs cherry, steering is awful but thats what brings me here, to expand my knowledge! Im excited to tap into this world of dozers and appreciate any advice you guys give me, thanks! Nick

Moparkid, KenP is 100% spot on that you need the manuals. Your first dozer so I would get the operators as well. I buy the parts manuals too even though they are available to look at for free on the Deere site. My next best tool is getting to know how to use the search on this site. Lots of good stuff here once you get to know how to combine words to find what you are after. You will have questions for sure, but take advantage of what has been covered before, if you can find it. You might have already figured all that out.
Welcome to the site. I have an early 450 dozer that is waiting for me to put the engine into it from a parts machine so I read everything posted here on the 450's for sure. A lot slower that the Mopars, but just as big a rush for me. (had a 69 challenger, should have kept it)

funny you guys say buy the manuals cause thats exactly what i did after i put up the post. Just doing a little digging on the site found out she's a 65 450, the first year of the model but she impresses me everyday despite her age. Always been a case guy but shes turnin me on to JD a lot. As far as mopars i grew up with my dads 70 charger and i have had a 72 charger that underwent a restoration the past 6 years. In my backyard sits a 69 satellite that hopefully someday will see the road again as a roadrunner clone but now this new JD toy there goes my money! figured i'd get the old fields back at the farm first
