Newbie Intro and Hose Identification Question

Post by twistedwillys » Tue Feb 14, 2012 2:34 pm

Hello All! Just another Newbie here (Actually more a lurker than a
Newbie ; ') I've been sitting back enjoying all the GREAT info and sucking in all the knowledge I can... This site has been one of my must reads before bedtime for the last few months now! 8 ' )

As I said, new to the list, so let me introduce myself very quickly...
My name is Neil Kapperman. I am a Technology Coordinator for a Special
Education School district and in my spare time I LOVE TO fabricate
heavy items out of steel  , play with all kinds of Power Tools
and occasionally play with Mustangs, Jeeps, BIG Military Vehicles and
now a New to Me late 60's JD 350 Crawler with a custom All in One
Fork/Blade attachment, Bucket and winch. I'll try to post some pics in
the show and tell section soon. So far, I've fabbed, rewired, added a
3 wire GM alternator, new lights and a few other small little odds and
ends. Overall "FITO" is in pretty good shape... New Tracks... actually
all new under carriage, paint, etc... Biggest issues to date was just
the electrical... all hacked up from 40+ years of farm duty.

Now to the reason of the post... While looking around at things the
other night while re-wiring, I noticed a hose coming out from below
the radiator that seems to be rubbing on the front pto shaft coupler spring. Looks like the spring is starting to eat into the hose, so I'm going
to need to replace it soon. Can someone tell me what this hose goes
to? It looks like it goes to the transmission area. (Oil cooler for
the reverser????) Anyway, I've attached an image (Hopefully  )

Thanks for any help and thanks for the Great site!!!!

Neil

Welcome to the forum!

You guessed correctly, that hose is from the reverser. It is one of the cooler lines. The rubber section you see should end behind the frame rail. There it should be clamped onto a steel line. There are two hoses and tubes there , one goes fairly straight while the one you are looking at makes a 90.

That's exactly what it looked like (from the limited view that I had).

Are these high pressure lines or lower pressure?

Thank you for confirming my earlier guess!

The cooler loop runs at a relativity low pressure.(Don't know it off the top of my head!) . A good general purpose (fiber braided) hydraulic hose should work

Thanks... One last question on this item... Is this hose rubbing on the coupler spring a common issue on the 350's? Everything appears to be in its factory position, but no matter how I move the hose, it seems to naturally want to rub the spring lightly.

It almost looks like it should go above the lower radiator hose instead... Does that make sense? It's currently a tad too cold in the shop, so I haven't been out to look at it tonight, so beware... I'm going on memory (scary I know ;')

Thank again!

Neil
