Just bough a 450C, the Clutch packs had been rebuilt. When you start it up and for the first thrity minutes it works fine. After a while, if you go to reverse, or push a load, the tractor will just stop. It is like it is losing hydraulic pressure.
I have changed the transmission fluid, as well as the filter.
Do you think this is a clutch problem, or a hydraulic problem in the transmission?
I am sure somene here has had this kind of problem. Just trying to figure out where to start.
Thanks

What you will find is you have a leak between the clutch piston and the trany pump .So with this problem there are many different problem spots to look I would start at the pack piston first and look it over good as this is kind of prone to leaking and seal failure The piston is white metal or magnesium and tends to ware out what pressure is the pump creating in high.in low and in reverse even look for a jump up in pressure in between ranges in the mid throttle just after start up with cooler oil.this is a good indication of oil and pump working right and the seals just starting to bypass oil .your choice at this point is to dig into the clutch packs or find a pressure guage .Digitup.

Oil Passage Failure
We have also seen failure in the o-rings that seal the internal metal tubing that feeds high pressure oil to the steering clutches. Very disappoing when this happens, on the B series and earlier the metal lines were connected with fittings instead of o-rings.
Best to start with the pressure guage. If you are lucky it is just your pump, if the leak is in the tranny passages or the clutches it is alot more work.
We have a 450C that we have ripped down twice and not solved the problem. We now believe it is the actual steering clutch seals failing. We have just parked this machine and moved on to more enjoyable projects.

I bought a real nice 550B several years ago the previous owner was just sick of it oil wasn't getting to the steering clutch .It had a rubber steering hose collapsed on the one steering clutch inside I put both hoses on new and away it went .It is always some simple little problem to make your day. That is what older equipment is all about,Have patience .Digitup.
