350c Isolator Upgrade

Post by Sefi » Fri Oct 30, 2009 9:48 am

I'm posting this for my father, he doesnt own a computer.

He does own a 1978 350c crawler, serial 300114T. He bought this machine new so its had one owner, and used for residential construction work, mostly digging out and backfilling foundations. It does some times get abused pushing down trees or moving some really big rocks too. Other than the occasional taking on something a little to big he maintains and takes care of it well.

Anyway he's on his third fix of the isolator since he's owned it. I went looking online to see if I could find parts cheaper for him and found your guy's website! Great resource! I found posts here about upgrading to the more reliable isolator. He had asked the local JD dealer about something like this and mostly just got blank looks.

I found the post that had all the part numbers listed to do the upgrade but that was in response to a 350B. Is there any difference between upgrading the 350c vs the 350B?

If so could someone provide the exact part numbers for what he needs to get? The local dealership doesnt seem to have a clue and if he can request everything he needs specifically it would really help.

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks, I looked that up. I see they have two fly wheels listed, I guess depending on what engine is in the machine. And two isolators. I can tell the old one from the pictures, so I know which is which. The flywheel listed tho is the correct new one to go along with the new isolator? They dont still offer the old flywheel to go with the old isolator?

I think the difference in the 2 flywheels is due to the 2 different engines, early 350Cs had a 3152 engine and the latter had a 3164, flywheels should be inter-changable, but youll need the later wheel to use the newer isolator.

Just to let you all know, he priced out the upgrade at two dealer(stealer)ships. The parts would have been about $2,500+ so he decided to go with the old fix for about $1,300. I guess he figures he'll be retired before it blows again. Odds are he's right. Three repairs in 30 years means this one should average another good 10 years.
