I have a line that comes off the top of the reverser on my 67 JD 350 straight; it's under the air filter and you can see it if you remove the floor plate. It looks like a vent or breather hose. Should it just be open to the elements or am I missing something on the end of it?
Thanks

Okay so at some point your machine had power assist on the steering or that reverser came out of a machine that had it. That line you have pictured is the return line from the steering system back to the reverser. Later "B" model machines did away with the steering pump that was mounted to the front of the engine and used reserve pressure from the reverser to power those assist cylinders. This is the same hydraulic source that the newer "C" and "D" models use to pressurize the wet steering clutch piston.
If you no longer have the steering assist or if your machine never had it to begin with you can simply cap or plug that port and do away with it. Your reverser is vented through the cap on the dip stick tube. That's why they have a tube instead of a stick. I hope this helps and good luck!!

Very interesting! My tractor is a 1967 350 straight, and it does not currently have power assist. Not sure if the reverser has been swapped out at some point and I don't have a lot of history on it.
Thanks for the info!
