350c transmission problem

Post by Westy77 » Mon Mar 09, 2026 5:24 pm

I have a 350c crawler loader i just bought and got running changed motor and some other things. Reverser seems to shift smooth forward and back like it's suppose too 3rd and 4th gear sound smooth when running in them how ever 1st and 2nd gear sound like a bearing is howling. Transmission shifts good through all the gears could this be the power shaft thats making all the noise.

I would think if it was the main power shaft then it would do it in all four gears. I would be thinking deeper than the input to power shaft. You can take the top / shifter cover off and look for your issue from there. You will need to drain the transmission fluid so that you can see down inside.

First and second gear are the main working gears on a 350 so it will most likely be on the counter shaft if it is a bearing. Either way it is a major tear down to get to any of the transmission.

I see what your saying. I guess maybe the needle bearing under first and second speed cluster gear on the input shaft or cone bearings at end.. I have been all the way through a straight 350 from front to back new input shaft gears etc rebuilt reverser but it's been about ten years and I have three more 350c in various stages for parts they are definitely not fun to work on the transmission total disassemble. This one will be worse than a dozer I suspect since it is a loader.

Yep, a loader is harder to do. I have done them by either removing the loader or just leaving it on and working around it. Didn't seem to matter much as it was a pain in the neck either way. The transmission is not all that difficult once you have it out. It's just getting to them that is the hard part. Anyway... good luck and keep us posted!! :D
