Hello
I have heard some conflicting info on this from some locals., Not being familiar with Deere, I have a 550. I think it's a "strait" 550, but the serial number is 550-C-361249T. I am told the serial number, by the dealer, that the "C" does not make it a 550C, so that is number one question.. 550 or 550C ?, I just want to confirm
Second question is , what model winch(s) will fit this machine. The dozer would work well, being I am cleaning and putting is some roads on my property. In upstate NY, we have a lot of dead ash, and being this machine has limb risers and a forestry type cage and armor type grills on it, makes it safe from falling trees, dead branches. I would like to find the arch as well, but I do need everything
The machine is worth the investment. The undercarriage is in great shape, and I pulled the damaged engine and overhauled it, changed all the hoses and fixed all the broken bolts, hell, it doesn't even need paint!
Thank You
550 type and what winch?
Re: 550 type and what winch?
Welcome to the Boards.
Your dealer told you correctly, with a gap between the 550 and the C, it is a straight 550. The C means it left the factory with a 6405 inside mount 6way hydraulic blade. Your serial number falls in the 1980 group according to the 550 serial number list on the FAQ Board here.
The model 3325 Power Winch is the one shown in the 550 parts catalog. Does your crawler already have the power shaft out the back to drive the winch?

If you don't have them, I strongly suggest you get the Technical (service) manual TM1108 and the Operator's Manual OMT70877. You can download and save a free pdf copy of the Operator's Manual from the JD Construction and Forestry Bookstore.
JD Construction and Forestry Bookstore
You can type the publication numbers I posted in the enter search box on that page and it will take you right to that manual. Click download on the Operator's Manual page to download the pdf to your computer and save it. There are prices there if you want to purchase a hardcopy. The same will work if you type the technical manual in the box and search. The difference is every choice for the technical manual is purchase, no freebies there or for the parts catalog if you want a hard copy of it. eBay is a place to find good used OEM manuals using the JD publication numbers, watch the prices as some are listed for more than the manuals direct from JD.
