350 track adjustment question and newbie questions

Post by Ryan_289 » Fri May 09, 2025 3:14 pm

I recently purchased a 350 dozer to do some fence row cleaning on the farm. Im familiar with ag equipment but not tracked industrial. I have read in the manual on tightening the tracks. Mine dont seem to move even when pumping grease into them. Is there a measurement somewhere to let me see if Im just adjusted all the way out? Or is there something I need to loosen first? Tracks are pretty worn but for the amount of hours ill ever put on this machine should do me for a while.

This machine had been sitting in a guys barn for over 10 years. Rats had completely chewed the wiring harness up and the area under the seat and the floor was full to the level of the seat with rats nest  Only took a few minutes for me to get the booster box on and get it fired up. Much to the frustration of the seller who had been "working" on it to try and start before he gave up! You should have seen the rats that ran out from underneath the machine when we started it. BIG ONES!

So far ive rebuilt the wiring harness minus the hour meter. Ive also done air, fuel, oil filters and oil. Need to drain and refill hydraulic system and change filters. Little machine seems to run well. both clutches work and the left brake is great, right brake is so so. Hoping I can get a little more adjustment out of it. Seems like it is better cold and when it warms up you have to pull a little harder on the stick to get everything to work. It seems like it will be a handy size for around the farm. Only thing that would make it better would be a 6 way blade. This one is hydraulic up and down with manual angle and tilt.

Any specific areas I need to check on this thing for known issues before I start actually using this machine instead of just playing around on it?

Welcome to the Boards.

Is grease coming out around the ram end of the cylinder? Is it still taking grease as you pump your grease gun or has it come up hard and you can't pump the gun anymore?

Try moving it back and forth some. That sometimes frees things up, so they move. I have seen tracks go too tight after being moved.

I did not see grease coming out anywhere. I was using my battery grease gun for the rams but didn't really go long. I have an 1800 psi gun coming for the rollers and idlers. I'm good to use regular grease and grease gun for the tensioner correct?

I've used the dozer probably 2-3 hrs pushing some small trees and digging a trench to burn them in. Tracks haven't gotten any more loose or tighter. They have a pretty good sag at the moment.

How do I post pictures?

The adjuster needs a regular or higher-pressure grease gun, which I would expect your battery powered one to be. You may need to pump more in it if the seal is leaking and it has collapsed for where it was last adjusted to.

To post pictures you can read about the site's dedicated picture server, down below on the Messageboard when you are signed in, which requires setting up an account on that server with Lavoy. Or you can use a third-party hosting site like Imgur or PostImages (those two are free to use as far as I know).
