H2o error

Post by FoxGap » Mon May 20, 2024 9:27 am

New to the board and have a 450j, first dozer for me. Got an H2o error code this past weekend, guessing condensation from all the rain lately. Water separator didn't have water in it. Should I drain fuel and replace filters to clear the code?

Welcome to the Boards.

I wish I had an answer for you. Your 450J is much newer than most discussed here. Someone might be along with a first-hand answer for you. The best I can say is if your Operator's manual doesn't give you an answer, you are going to have to ask your dealer, or acquire the technical manuals for your machine. From what I can see at the JD Construction and Forestry Bookstore, one needs several different technical manuals for the 450J to have all the info. You can download a free copy of the Operator's Manual, and save it to your computer, from that site if you do not have a copy. Below is a link to the site. Type 450J in the model box. When it gives you a dropdown list of equipment click on the 450J in that list. when the 450J is in the model box, click the search icon to the right of the Search Term box. That should get you the list of documents available for the 450Js. There are some serial number breaks so you will need your serial number to get the right ones. The Operator's Manual is free to download, the other manuals are all purchase items. The TM that are titled Test (or Test and Operation) will have the testing and diagnostic info, schematics and diagrams, etc. The repair TMs have the "wrenching" info. If you need help there you can scroll down and there is a Help window that will give you methods to contact them including a phone number.

Good luck,
Jim

Thinking about this. You say H2O error code. Is that the code for water in the fuel or something else? I don't know where the sensor for water is located. It might be in the fuel filter, not the separator, I know many on trucks are located in a fuel filter. Do you see wires to the filter or separator? I doubt it is in the fuel tank, so I would not advise draining the tank at this point. It would likely be worthwhile to replace the fuel filter(s). There is also the possibility there is a bad sensor or poor connection in a plug together connection.

Thanks Jim. I have the manual but it just lists the basics, good to know there is another book for repairs. To answer your question, yes the code means water in fuel, but like you I'm not sure where that sensor is. I'll give JD a call today and see what they say.

Hi,

I would look first in the bottom of the fuel filter. Usually, there is a probe in the bottom that conducts a small current to the can and triggers the Fuel In Water light (or something on an electronic display).

Usually, just letting a little fuel out the drain on the bottom gets rid of the water as the water is always under the fuel (hence the probe being at the bottom).

But I haven't been around one of these particular model machines, so I suppose they might have done something different.

Thanks Stan. I did drain some fuel out of the filter and it did not have any water in it. Upon further inspection it looks like there is a part of the sensor missing that I assume is triggering the error code, hope that's it anyway.
