John Deere 555 transmission leak
John Deere 555 transmission leak
Hi, First post since getting my loader home . Its a 1977 plate says 555-a-271484T . Apparantly John Deere is telling me its a regular 555 even with the tag saying its an A . Anyway, Ive been trying to go through and seal it all up, and rep[ace anything that looks iffy. Got the top side sealed up and checked it out in neighbors yard and noticing a hard drip coming out of the transmission that appears to be a weep hole not far behind where engine and transmission meet. How screwed am I? Am I looking at having to pull the transmission to fix it? Thanks, Steve

Welcome to the board. Your 555 puts you in the newer side machines than most on here. The A in the case of your crawler's serial number stands for loader, per the serial breakdown with the 555 parts catalog.
It sounds like you have a leak in the converter area.
If you don't have a set of manuals, I would suggest you contact Lavoy (email or phone) and see if he can get you a set through his store. I am not familiar enough with the 555 to say for certain but it maybe a case of pulling the engine to get to it. The manuals will describe separation of components as well as someone with more 555 experience may be along.
