Battery CCA for 350B

Post by MJBlades » Fri May 30, 2014 6:44 am

Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for battery cold cranking amps for a350B up here in the Great White North? Seems to me the specs for batteries in the Tech manual are kind of low. Would there be any electrical issues using a higher rated CCA batteries?

I'd put as big a battery as you could find / fit. Increased CCA has no issues on the electrical system. I'm currently running 1000CCA and I'm thinking about adding a second one for winter starting. I don't normally need it but I'm thinking about doing small jobs for people and I'll need it available all year if I do that.

You definitely want a Group 31 battery (those are typically around 1000 CCA), especially if a diesel engine as it takes some effort to start in colder weather. Adding a second is helpful if you have the room, but make sure you attach them in parallel and not in series.

Thanks for the replies 77 Ford and Tigerhaze. Much appreciated. Any comment on the difference between a Group 30H and 31 battery. Tech manual says 30H.

30H is about 3/4" taller and less CCA than a group31P .......30H is around 650 CCA and the 31P can be as high as 1000CCA 31P the P is for tapered lead post
