John deere 550A Steering housing over full and small leak?
John deere 550A Steering housing over full and small leak?
I have a JD 550A crawler. the left side steering housing started to have a very slow leak( stays wet) on the inside. I noticed that both the steering housing were over full, so was the transmission. The dozer works just fine, but should i be worried about the leak? I'd say the steering housing were maybe a qt. over full. When i removed the fill plug and let the level down, the transmission oil also went down. Do the to share oil together? is there a seal between the transmission and the steering housings? Any help
update on leak
from what i see, It must be leaking between final and steering housing. The use a rubber form a gasket to seal. My one question is does the transmission oil go into the steering housing? from what i see in the service manual, there is no seal between the transmission housing and the steering housing ? so if someone over filled the transmission, it would effect the lever of the steering housing? Anyone know ?
I don't see any seals
Between transmission and steering housings? just on the inside of the finals. and of course the sealer used for putting the finals back on, which are leaking.
