Unit wouldn't drive. After removing clutches, found the vertical throw out bearing actuator shaft stuck, particularly at the lower bushing. I feel I should lubricate this during reassembly - thinking about a) coating it liberally with grease, b) drilling, and adding a grease hose to externally mounted zirk, c) installing "O" ring (or a metal "hat brim") above bushing on shaft to keep friction material from entering and contaminating this greasy pivot point. Any suggestions? What is the norm for minimizing the problem with moisture contamination of the moving parts (besides good seals on the covers)?
Does the throwout bearing need grease on the tube upon which it slides?
The throw out bearing actuator fork was quite stuck to the same vertical actuator rod. A friend suggested "anti-seize" for reassembly. Ever heard of doing that? Might a coat of oil or grease do as well? It is affixed to the shaft with a set screw and doesn't move for normal operation. This would be for ease of disassembly in the future.
I found several broken bolts that came from the top of the same clutch actuator rod (and the usual collection of wrenches!) in the bottom of the clutch housing. I wonder if I should upgrade these bolts (that were intact) with some new Grade 8 or 9 bolts?

A small bit of Never Seize is all you should need .The tube should have no real restriction to it .But make sure the splines are smooth as possible. How many 9/16 wrenches did you find ?Also those adjustment bolts should be in good shape so it is a good up time to replace with two new ones that are the same size all around some get a 1/2 inch on one side and a 9/16 on the other it is just a whole lot easier if they are the same and in good repair .Digitup.

Wrenches found: four (not quite the record on this site), one was mine from a previous foray into the bowels of the clutch housing
, and three others, deteriorated beyond further use. Mine was a 1/2-9/16 ratchet box wrench that I had hoped would keep me from dropping it (obviously it was no substitute for the piece of "safety" string) and that I was otherwise glad to return to my tool box.

Ya I know what you're saying I would keep a 9/16 on a boot string in the tool tray. Do you have the ply wood piece over the battery's if you do I have the optional original Deere tool tray for it .You don't find many but I still have one left over that I always kept a wrench in to set clutches up as well as a set of fence pliers and assorted other wrenches I would sell it if any one is interested git in touch .Digitup.
