My Dad and I picked up a 350b dozer last fall with both steering clutches frozen. We now have the right side final drive off and the clutch removed. The disc thickness seem to be fine. Do people clean these up and reinstall or do they just buy new. The brake band seems to have plenty of pad left too. Is the brake band a high wear item? Who sells JD parts for a decent price?

The best way to do that is to clean every thing up and reinstall all plates and clutches .If the plates are badly pitted you can replace them .Make sure all plates and clutches have good internal drive lugs and run smoothly on there internal hub unit then insure all linkages are working as well. This is a good job for a repair manual .Set both sides up properly and go by the manual the old Deere should work like a charm after .Digitup.
Thanks digitup! After much thought we decided to go with two new clutch kits through Dozer Heaven out of NY. If the clutches were easier to get to we would have ran the old ones but I just don't want to have to do this again anytime soon. Peice of mind comes at a price sometimes! They should be here in a few days. We also got a manual. Should be fun! Thanks again.

I like the way you think, putting old parts back in after you are in that deep makes no sense.
while you are in there I would replace the inner seals too,if you have more money new bearings and seals for the finals wouldn't hurt either.
sounds like you have the right plan to me.....do it once right and you will get many years out of your new steering clutches.
