Post by jd550 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 8:08 pm

We have an old jd550 but it has some problems, after about 20 to 30 minutes of pushing it will loose pushing power, it will still back up and every thing just wont move forwardor if does very slow. We dont have a manuel for it and we are looking for one, if you know were we could get one or if anyone has a used one they would be willing to sell? Thanks[/img]

it sounds like you have the classic low control pressure, slipping front clutch pack.
you will need to check your oil pressure in the trans to see what is going on,you can't depend on the dash gauge...you need to tie in a pressure gauge to the proper port,a pair manual would really help you.
if you keep "slippin" around you will toast your trans,I know this from experience

Your forward clutch pack is done on the directional clutch unit Don't take and wear the clutch pack out completely if you can help it you may just need the clutch steel surfaces and a new set of friction surfaces and pistons for the forward pack is probably also needed as the piston is aluminum and by now it will have the seal area wore out of it so a new piston will be needed for both ends of the clutch pack unit also .These pistons should all be replaced along with all fiber surfaces on all three clutch packs This will do a good repair job when in there as you don't want to go back in a second time How many hours are on the crawler at this point ?.Digitup.
