First One! My 350C
First One! My 350C
Bought this because I have a steep driveway in NW Montana and my 58 Fordson Major Diesel tried to kill me plowing last winter. Excited to use this critter instead, as well as use it for other projects around the property. Manuals coming in the mail next week. Anything interesting you notice about it, those of you that know what you’re looking at??
Re: First One! My 350C
Hello,
Looks like a nice and competent machine. Sweeps, winch, fairleads.....
Ice caulks for frozen/icy ground. You can be sideways, speeding down hills and turned over very quickly.
Best regards

Yeah, if you are running that on steep hills in icy conditions, I would look at doing something for ice traction before I would even confider using it. Lots more mass than your Fordson, and they toboggan sideways like crazy on ice.

Re: First One! My 350C
Hi,
Anyone still make Ice Caulk bolts for the pads? I have a set on my 420c. Didn't have a set on my 350. Back when I lived in NY state I was on quite a hill and got the 350 sideways plowing and I suddenly had 30 ice skates attached to a dozer! Dad's 420 never slid sideways like that! Because he had Ice Caulks.

Re: First One! My 350C
Stan,
I have been looking for years, I have not found a source. About 12 yrs ago, Mother Deere had several hundred available at ~$10/piece. So I started saving my money to buy a “set”. After I have the cash (1year), I go back to the dealer. None available, what the heck! More checking with Deere, they sold their obsolete inventory to “Vintage Deere”. My Dealer contacts Vintage, yes, we have that part number available. At ~$125/piece. I check back about once a year, as you can imagine the part(s) are still available at Vintage.
This has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Deere and the regional manager are unable to help in any way. This is a classic example of a new up start over pricing their inventory to expand their base, helping with valuations and bank relations/borrowing.
I sure would like some caulks

I have been looking also. The only thing so far has been some outfits selling clips from 2 to 6 inch long of grouser bar to weld on the two - one pattern on the existing grousers. They help a bit but they are still skates. I have welded cheap bolts and nuts on before as caulks and that helped.

Welcome to the addiction known as owning a crawler.
Agree with everyone about some more traction for hills and ice.
Also noticed your pre-cleaner bowl and cap are missing, if you're keeping it outside make sure to keep that covered or your air filter is open to getting wet.
