Re: Newbie with a MC crawler undergoing "Rustoration"
Thanks for the tip Lavoy... I have no idea what I am doing with this thing! So I need all the help I can get!
I pulled the final drive assembly off today! It was quite the adventure... I am editing the video now and it should be posted on YouTube about noon tomorrow. It became quite evident why the clutch was no longer working!
Now I have some serious work ahead of me now! I hope I am able to easily remove the bearing cups and get the retainer clips and stuff taken apart. I am going to have to go hunting for my c-clip pliers - I know they are around here somewhere - the big question is WHERE!?!
But that axle bearing is scaring me - it flops around in there like half the ball bearings are gone... I mean like GONE GONE... but it spins freely and it doesn't sound "crunchy" so maybe the gears are ok! Here's hoping...
The final drive is up on a table and soaking in degreaser overnight. Tomorrow morning I will power wash all the mouse crap off of it again (Wait till you see the video! LOL!) and start soaking down the hardware with PB Blaster to see if I can get it apart without resorting to a torch and a cut off wheel...
But it is OFF! Finally! And there is no doubt as to why the clutch stopped working... But it looks like it is rebuildable!

I got the steering clutches partially disassembled...

Now I have to figure out how to get that drum off of the shaft!
Any suggestions?

Thank you for the subscription - share it with your friends! LOL And thanks for the compliment...
I've been trying to make something educational and entertaining - because quite honestly, during these times, the isolation out here on the farm is a bit of a pain in the butt! It gives me a chance to play with my cameras and share the progress and my activities with friends, family and a hell of a lot of strangers!
I found it quite funny that my daughter cues these videos up in the lunch room at her work and her and her friends watch an almost daily video "from Dad"... She lives in the city and some of these folks have never set foot on a farm. They find this stuff somewhat fascinating...
