Hey all!
I live on some acreage just outside of Eugene, Oregon. The landowner has been a collector of all sorts of antiques, some worth collecting and others, well, not. He is now 83 years old and finally recognizing that it’s time to clean up the land and let some things go so I’ve been in the process of sorting through all this stuff, scrapping, burning, donating, etc.
There are two old crawlers which were damaged when the barn burned down which they were parked next to. One of them is a 1962 2010. The other is not a JD. Both of them have sat in the rain for years now and are completely rusted. I found someone who will haul them away for free for scrap but the landowner has this idea that someone out there would want them for the treads or perhaps the bucket. My sense is that they are too far gone and should be scrapped but I’m trying to do my due diligence so that I can hopefully convince him to let them go.
Any input is appreciated!
Do these have value for parts?
Re: Do these have value for parts?
Welcome to the boards.
The entire 2010 series, crawlers and wheel tractors both, were/are not the desired models JD made. Yes, it might have some parts value, if someone needs a part and that part is good on his crawler. With your description that it was damaged in a fire and has been setting outside for years, says not running. With those things against it, it will be hard to tell what, if anything is good. Tracks and undercarriage have to be measured to check condition. Someone might use some of the parts if they have a crawler and want to take a chance on his for parts. Unless he wants to part it out himself and try to sell the parts somewhere like eBay or Facebook, the value is limited to finding that someone who wants a 2010 parts crawler. His best chance to get something for it may be to list it on Craigslist and Facebook. Set a time frame to run the ads and if no takers, let a salvage guy take it.
The same applies to the other crawler. If he has time let them set and run the ads to see what happens, they can go nearer the end of your clean up, if no one wants them for parts. I have to think someone around there would give him something for them as scrap, not just haul them away for free. Have you talked with an actual scrap yard to see what they say or have suggestions of someone who would pay for it as scrap?
Good luck. Hopefully someone local to you might want the 2010, there may be a member here from out that way that will contact you. It sounds like this is clean up time and following through is the only way it will happen. Just my honest thoughts. Good luck.

Re: Do these have value for parts?
Thanks for your input Jim. I’ve talked to the scrap yard in town and they didn’t have any helpful advice, so I found a guy who can haul it for no charge which seems like a good deal to me as our landowner doesn’t need to make money on these. My take is the reason someone who’s willing to haul for free and who has the means to do so, is in it for the scrap money and that they deserve it for the service they’re providing.
That said if there’s someone out there who wants to haul these for the rusty parts, they’re welcome to them!

I do have pictures but am unsure how to upload them here. Any clue on how to do that?
