Another Factory Unauthorized modification...

Post by Ray III » Thu Sep 17, 2009 6:31 pm

There is a widget bolted to the bellhousing of the 420 that the engine clutch quadrant (fork) pivots on. This is secured by a mischievous snap-ring which has decided lately it will not stay on. After becoming intimate with the procedure for removing the engine and front end of the machine to replace a snap ring, I decided to make things a little more permanent.

Replacement part is a 7/16" fine thread bolt welded to a 1/2" bolt, with a castle nut and hole drilled for a cotter pin.

Would you believe I repaired one of those once from the rear end? We pulled the trans and finals off of a 420 loader from the rear, and discovered that the snap ring had fallen off. Somehow we managed to get a washer over the stud, and I reached my arm up inside of the center section with the wire welder stinger and welded it on. Of course, a week later, we ended up pulling the engine because the clutch was bad anyhow.
