I have some questions and am looking for some advice. I have a 2010 diesel crawler (4 cylinder), no serial number tag, don't know for sure what year it is, need some info to order parts. This machine is a cold blooded, hard starting machine which smokes heavy while starting until it warms up. However, it never really clears up completely. The tractor runs strong and doesn't knock. The previous owner gave me a little procedure to follow in order to start the machine. Is there anything that can be done to improve starting? I am not sure the engine, fuel injector pump or glow plugs were ever worked on or changed. I do disengage the hydraulic system with a lever in the front before trying to start the tractor.
Also, I am debating whether it would be worth it to have the tractor engine professional rebuilt. I am kind of afraid of how much this would cost, can anyone give me a ballpark number for what a complete rebuild would cost? I am also not sure whether it would be easier to do an in frame or out of frame rebuild? The dozer has an inside frame mounted blade assembly. Someone also told me about a engine cylinder deck plate assembly that might be required? Not sure.
The man I bought this tractor from said he had a lot of work done to the drive train/undercarriage. Part of me says I should restore this old girl the other part of me says I should save my money and look for a better machine. I would appreciate any input anyone has. Thanks.

The sad part about 2010's is the parts availability, many of the engine parts are Deere only, and were unique to that engine series, so kind of low production.
Complete rebuild on a diesel with injector pump, professionally done would have to touch $5000 or so. Rebuild kit alone for bottom end last I knew was $2500.
That being said, if he did as much work as he says to the rest of the crawler, that would be a hell of a machine, would last you a lot of years.
