here was the question,

Hello Lavoy,

I have begun to put back my right rear final to my late model 440 ICD.
It’s been apart all winter.
I have a few questions and things.

Needed parts.
1. 3 new Cups and 3 new balls that go into crawler half of final, steering cam rotates on these.
2. New through out bearing holder, small casting that bearing is in.
3. 2 new track pins and clips

Can I get a price on these and when you could ship?

Also some questions.

I put 7 new steels (steel in first) and 7 new fibers in the clutch basket, mine is the single piece drum with 6 or so small cutouts in the back.
I have a rebuilt pressure plate that I bolted up. But when I put the pressure plate against the last fiber, the bolting surfaces do not touch the cutouts in the drum where the two bolts ( x 3 places) holed the plate to the drum, there is about a .125 gap or so,

I have the tool to set the clutch fingers but haven’t used it yet. Do I use this tool before I bolt pressure plate to housing, or go ahead and bolt pressure plate on drum then adjust using clutch tool, if so will the gap close as the bolts tighten.
Thanks
scott

"You don't have enough discs in there. Late 440's use either 15 or 16 discs.
All the parts you listed are current from Deere except maybe the throwout bearing holder. It will be faster to get them from Deere, I am leaving for a week, and will not be able to ship any parts until next week.

question

Post by 440icd » Mon Feb 27, 2006 3:52 pm

If I put 7 steels and 7 fibers in, there isn't enough room for any more.
I started with putting one steel in, is this correct? or should it be a fiber, I would imagine it would tear up the fiber if I put that in first, because it has 6 or so cut outs in the drum.

Also do I use the clutch finger tool, to set the height of the fingers on the pressure plate before I bolt it to the drum?

Also what would cause not being able to get all the disks and fibers in there, with 7 and 7 Iam out of room on the inner spline on the fibers, can I put a steel against the pressure plate?

Anyone thanks

Zooming in on a manual

Post by 440icd » Mon Feb 27, 2006 6:49 pm

After looking at a manual under mega zoom, it apears that the fiber goes on first, Can this be true? on a late model?

can some one help?

that may solve my problem, but I still wonder if that fiber will be ripped apart by those 6 cutouts in the drum.

what do you guys think?
thanks

You never use 7 and 7. No matter what you start with, you always end up with a fiber against the pressure plate. If you have the late style perforated drum, it uses either 15 or 16 discs, only difference is whether or not you put a steel in there first. If it is a 15 plate drum, it will be marked in the casting of the drum somewhere.
Fingers are adjusted after the pressure plate is installed.

fibers

Post by 440icd » Tue Feb 28, 2006 12:25 pm

I think it may work out if I put the fiber in 1st, for some reason I was under the impression that the 6 cutouts in the drum would chew up that 1st fiber.

What kind of marking will be on it to designate its the late drum?

Thanks

It will say on the drum center, use XXX clutch discs or something like that.
