fiber disk replacement on jd 440 icd

Post by frozendozer » Thu Nov 22, 2007 11:08 am

thought i had a failure on a stearing clutch on my JD 440 icd. when i took it apart to replace, i saw that the seal had failed and that the breal band and clutch disks were completely covered in gear oil as well as the brake band. my question is as follows:

di i need to replace all the fiber disks and the brake bands. They are all in real good shape and have cleaned up real nice.

thanks all

If the discs and band is soaked in oil I would change them all. They will soak up the oil and swell up and no matter what you do you will never get them right. :(
Check with Lavoy for certain though.

The brake band may live, but it will always bleed oil and not work as well. The fiber discs are junk, been there done that a couple of times and learned my lesson.

Lavoy and stretch are right on,oil leak into clutch compartment.... replace the brake band and fiber discs....they won't work right ever again once oil gets soaked into them.
