track carrier removal

Post by rroger » Tue May 27, 2025 6:53 pm

working on a 1959 440IC gas. Taking it apart to overhaul, has sat for some time. Trying to get the track carriers off with no luck. not moving at all. Bolts out on both sides. 4 bolts at each attachment, 8 per side. Have porta powers between and some heat applied. Nothing moving, before i decide to apply more heat and pressure, did I miss something to take apart? anyone have any tricks for this?

No, they tend to rust in and are a pain to get apart.

thanks for the reply. i was afraid of that. i am going to change how i do this. both carriers need alot of work. really want to flip them over. i have the crawler already torn apart fairly well. i think i am going to pull the blade push arms off and then the rearend off. that leaves me with the frame, crossbars and carriers as a package and should be able to flip that whole unit over. not as easy as just a carrier, but better that breaking something. any thoughts as this as a plan? the carriers both need the the front rails built up and both have multiple broken of bolts.

That is how I would do it if the trackframes won't come off.
