Upon disassembling my 420 JD, I noticed a bearing quill above the PTO shaft. When I pulled the PTO and cover off I noticed thhe quill had no function and on the transmission inside the cavity was a splined shaft in line with the quill. What option was this for? The crawler is a 4 speed no reverser

Most likely for a hyd pump on some sort of attachment. Deere never made an attachment that used the high speed shaft, only the aftermarket suppliers.
