Engine clutch disk

Post by apowalski » Thu May 26, 2011 8:47 pm

The part manual says an AM3791t for the clutch disk. When I look them up they are $180 to $200 dollars and the John Deere site say no longer available contact dealer for other options. I purchaced the video on rebuiding the engine and those two guys said you can use a disk that fits the ford tractor. I looked those up and theyr'e prices are like $50. Any reccomended vendors for this disk? I measured my old one and it is .312 thick. Also upon cleaning it the rivets are marked ford and the wear material is some what like a break shoe is made up of. Looking for help, Thanks AdamP

That disc is obsolete, but I stock the replacement, $90 with shipping.

Lavoy, Two questions, The replacement in the video had springs in the center of the disk, any advantage to that? Have you ever torn down any of the equipment that you have repaired the splines to? I pretty sure I should repair the splines to the reverser input shaft. Thanks, AdamP

Way back, the crawler used what they called a "cushioned" pressue plate, and a solid disc. I have no idea what they thought was the cushioning part of the pressure plate, it was just 3 little tabs under the pressure plate fingers.
The tractors however, used a standard pressure plate, and a "cushioned" disc, hence the springs you see in the clutch disc. There are different ways of doing this, but the concept is the same.
Either disc will work, the rigid disc would probably be stonger. Either way, I have never had trouble with either.
Probably only had one or two that had splines bad enough that I was worried about them, normally, not a problem.
