If I spin engine I can see clutch and pressure plate and shaft turning, but nothing turns in the reverser or the transmission. If I turn pto shaft it spins the reverser. Is it possible that the clutch shaft slid forward and disengaged the reverser? When I was replacing engine, the shaft came out with the clutch. Thanks

It has been some time since I started this project but I finaly got the motor pulled today and found the problem! The main shaft is broken in two pieces, and now trying to get other half out? Anyone know a simple way? A magnet hasn't worked! Will be looking for another shaft if anyone has one, let me know. Thanks, Sam

Broken clutch shaft causing the problem! I just worked the broken part out with a magnet and long screwdriver with magnet in shaft hole and screwdriver in reverser [side plate off] working the broken part of the shaft and holding pressure with magnet. Finally got it moving and out. Now looking for a shaft. Does anyone have any idea where I might find one? Please let me know. The shaft is from clutch thru reverser, it is approximately 20.5 inches long,1 3/8" With10 splines and 1 3/16" with 16 splines [aproximate] This is for a JD440 with a reverser.

I assume you are talking about the reverser input shaft. If so, I should have one.

Thanks Lavoy, yes it is the clutch shaft to the reverser. The shaft is aprox. 20 1/2 inches long, 1 3/8 inch diam. with 10 splines, and the reverser end is aprox. 1 3/16 inches with 16 splines. Please let me know if you have one available and the price including shipping. Sam

Lavoy, Got the shaft in the mail Thursday but haven't had time to put it in. I hope to get it in soon! Did you get the dozer cleaned up from the rollover in the mud? I hope it wasn't as bad as it sounded! have you posted any pictures? Thanks Sam

Yes, got it out the same day. It did get water in the engne, so far two bent rods, parts of pistons in the pan, and still won't turn over right, so assuming a bent or busted crank.
I posted a pic in the show and tell section.
