Hi folks ,hope I can get an idea what I may be in for with this job.
Ive been starting to work on my 59 440 ic gas dozer again.
It has the small transmission. At some time long ago someone gutted the reverser and installed a straight shaft in the housing.Every thing else in the housing is gone.
I have a 440 icd loader (large transmission) that trashed the ring gear but has a complete and working reverser.I think I remember hearing the reversers housings were different between the large and small transmissions.
What I would like to know is if the housings are the only difference ?Can I take the insides of the icd reverser and put then in the ic gas housing?are the input shafts different?is there anything else different?
I know this may be a big job, just getting to the 440 icd reverser will be a big pain but the price of a used one will make it worth the trouble.
The dozer is at a point that replacing the reverser will be fairly easy and would be a nice feature to have working again.just dont know what kind of trouble I may be in for taking the insides of one to fix the other.
Maybe I'll get real lucky and you'll tell me it will bolt right up,but I doubt it.
Thanks
Steve
