vandalized jd 440 loader backhoe

Post by wolf run shoals » Mon Nov 29, 2010 7:40 pm

I purchased a 1958 loader backhoe and had it at a house I am renovating. Some @#$&@@ vandalized the heck out of it. Cut every wire and hose including throttle cables and fuel line. It isnt where a tow truck can get to it! I have the original service manual, but it has been rewired for 12 volt negative ground. Any suggestions. I have not had the machine long enough to be familiar with it, but I really need to get it running. I have replaced the fuel line. Need to get the throttle cable. It has a key swithc and it seems that the lever swith in the middle was disabled. I used to start it by turning the key and the flipping up a toggle to start it.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Willing to pay some dear sole in the Washington DC area to come fix it!

Thanks

Steve

Do you mean choke cable? Should not be a throttle cable on this one.
As to getting it running, you can run a jumper wire from the terminal on the starter switch to the coil, that will get you power. If you did mean the choke cable, you can put your hand over the air cleaner to choke it to get it started.

The JD440 has an "open center" hydraulic system, so you need to make sure that you hook up at least a bypass hydraulic line to run the fluid out of the pump and back into the return. You cannot just plug the lines.
JD440-ICD loader; JD440-IC bulldozer; JD440-ICD backhoe; JD440-I backhoe; JD440-I tractor; + five recumbent JD440-ICs
