430C oil pump schematic

Post by trctdon » Fri Mar 31, 2006 10:17 am

I am in need of a schematic of the oil pump on a 430C What had happened is that the machine shop had pulled the oil pump apart, why, i don't know. I am sure i can put it back togehter but rather see the blowup first. It's a new motor and don't want to experiment. the new book i have says to refer to section xxxx of another book that i don't have. Why is that allways the case? You buy a {whole book} for one specific thing and low and behold the info you need is not there  Thank you for any help. Don

Hi,

Sorry that I can't help with the problem at hand, but I'm nowhere near my stack of manuals today. :(

However, I can answer the question 'why'. Deere produced the manuals for the service shop, not the end user. Think about the number of models a Deere shop would have to have manuals for 'in the day'.

Now, these machines, just about all of them, were built as a series of upgrades thru the years. In our specific case, the 'M' came first, and was upgraded to become the 40, then to the 420, then to the 430 and finally to the 440.

Heck, if you look closely, you'll see that the 1010 is also an upgrade from the 430 as well.

Anyway, at a shop, they'd have all the data for the 'M' in the 'M' manual, so why repeat what hasn't changed from the 'M' on the 40 in the 40 manual? That'd just be even more pages in the big bench binder rack to deal with. So, they just put in the 'new' info into the 'new' manual and presumed that the mechanic could just wander over to the bench-o-manuals and get the older one for unchanged stuff. :p

So, I learned a long time ago, that one needs to have *all* of the manuals on hand. I have the entire 'M' thru 440 set on hand. Now, for the parts manual, I have just the last (or pretty much the last) version, dated 1962 which covers everything in the series (or at least everything I've ever needed for the past 20 years).

Of course, sometimes you have to go visit a newer manual for an older machine when you find that it has an upgrade on it that came later.

As an odd 'reverse' example, if I need to work on the direction reverser for my 420c, then I have to go get the 430 manual. My 420 is very late production, and so Deere had started putting on 430 things even though they hadn't yet changed the dashboard and tin to the new style. My 1958 420c has the differential style DR from the 430/440 series, not the gear style one a 420 is 'supposed' to have.

So, anyway, there's the answer to 'why must I have a pile-o-manuals'. ;)

I bought the parts from Lavoy and he is supposed to get me a schematic shortly. Thank you for your explanation. Don
