2010 crawler/loader hydraulic track adjuster

Post by dummkopf » Sun Jul 11, 2010 1:14 pm

I just bought a 2010 crawler loader with a model 50 backhoe. It runs great and needs only a few things to make it "better". One of the repairs that I would like to do is fix the right hydraulic track adjuster. Apparently the cylinders were not chromed so they will obviously rust. This one has rusted so bad that it would not hold pressure so the previous owner made a spacer that would provide the pressure. He would add shims as needed. Now, I believe that the track is loose enough to allow occasional skipping which I don't like.

Here's the question: Aside from replacing with a good unit (which I would do if the price was right, and I could find one) is there a repair that anyone could recommend? I'm sure the seals could be replaced, but my cylinder is still rusted...

What do the experts recommend?

I've heard of a few instances where hydraulic cylinders were machined for sleeves through hydraulic supply shops. It might not be cost effective on a crawler, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. One of the applications was a small aircraft's gear cylinders & the price difference was remarkable. Stainless sleeves oughta put this problem to bed for good, eh?

I think new hydraulic adjusters are available and not too pricey relative to a lot of machine shop work- ask Lavoy if he has them available.
