2010 final drive

Hello, the final drive was torn apart when I bought this machine so I am reassembling using the shop manual I have. It shows the bearings on the axle facing each other with a snap ring locating the smaller inboard bearing race. My housing doesn't have a grove for a snap ring----I did get a snap ring that looks like the correct size for the housing. The housing does not look worn or broken. Any thoughts,help?
