440 IC Upper Track Roller Replacement

Post by Scott Corbett » Mon Feb 15, 2010 4:00 am

Replacing both current track roller-base plate assemblies.

Do not have the 1" spacer blocks under the rollers, now.
Replacement rollers came with 2 spacer blocks.

Any comments on the need to install spacers or still leave out?

Not planning any track adjustments, currently plenty of sag to accomodate the extra 1" or so.
Not sure why they are needed?

Put them in, that was an update for the older crawlers, the later ones used a taller support.

Hi,

Downward sag leads to faster pin and bushing wear. They must have decided that there was still too much sag, and so lengthened the idler supports as a running change. The blocks would be to do the same with the shorter supports....

If I remember the service bulletin correctly, there was not enough pressure on the upper idler so it would quit turning and wear a flat spot on it. I have the bulletin around somewhere, but who knows where.
