Enine miss at operating temp

I installed a 180 thermostat and a mechanical temp gauge on this dozer. When I start it, it runs great with no misses until it reaches around 180 and the t-stat opens. This dozer was in pieces when i bought it and i put it all together with new components. So it has never had a 160 t-Stat. Any ideas...

It has started.

My 440 has started for the first time today. just started turning it over with the choke closed and it popped, opened the choke and it started immediately. Time to tinker with adjustments now. I would also like to say that I bought the proper battery plate from Lavoy and it was awesome. I have bough...

I am going to try again. I have installed the engine in the 440 gas crawler. I put on the front hard nose and am now trying to figure out what size spacer goes in to the holes of the front engine support. I found that the diesel crawler uses the same fasteners for its front support. If any one has t...

It is a 440 gas crawler. I think they need to be about 15/16 outside diameter .625 thick and 7/16 hole. the part you get today from Deere is 3/8 inside 1/2 outside .625 thick. I am going to see them tomorrow and see if they can identify bushings by description. Thanks AdamP

Front motor mount

My engine is mostly together now and was looking at the work ahead. This project was bought already torn down so I am using the manuals to go together. My serial number is 458942 so I have the later style front engine mount. How does it attach to the frame. I bought the bolts and the round spacers f...

Lavoy, Two questions, The replacement in the video had springs in the center of the disk, any advantage to that? Have you ever torn down any of the equipment that you have repaired the splines to? I pretty sure I should repair the splines to the reverser input shaft. Thanks, AdamP

Engine clutch disk

The part manual says an AM3791t for the clutch disk. When I look them up they are $180 to $200 dollars and the John Deere site say no longer available contact dealer for other options. I purchaced the video on rebuiding the engine and those two guys said you can use a disk that fits the ford tractor...

Governor shaft seal 440IC

Pulled the shaft from a governor for cleaning and find that the leather seal is falling apart. I measured the shaft and it measures .435 the part number in the book says the ID of the seal is .375. Anybody find a more modern seal to fit this application? How about repairing the wear on the housing s...

I am taking my block to a machine shop, the guy there talks about building it up with a brazing rod and then we will use the back side of the water pump to properly align the bolt holes and drill and thread. Crossing my fingers. AdamP

broken bolt flange

I was inspecting my engine block and found that the bolt flange that sticks out towards the left side for the water pump mount is broken. It is broken half way through the bolt hole. This crawler was bought disassembled and I plan on working on it this winter. Any thoughts on how to repair that flan...

tach/hour meter

Why did they stop putting the tach in the 440c? I see that there is a stewart warner that can fit. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks AdamP.
