I JUST BOUGHT THE CRAWLER, STARTER CAME WITH SHIMS AND DID RUN. STARTER WAS WEAK, REPLACED IT THROUGH JOHN DEERE, WITH THE CORRECT STARTER. STILL NEEDS SHIMS. I DO NOT WANT SHIMS IN THE STARTER. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. ANY OTHER IDEAS TOOK ENGINE OUT, LOOKED AT FLYWHEEL, NO DAMAGE TO THE FLYWHEEL. EVI...

starter not engaging
took out old starter which had 2 1/8th washers for shims. Bought a new starter from john deere, installed it without the washers and now it won't mesh with the flywheel. Should i have to shim it. Would prefer not to because of weather and dirt. any suggestions
