It is kind of personal preference. I personally have put very few back on. They certainly don't hurt anything or Deere wouldn't have used them to start with. Lots and lots of higher HP, higher RPM engines that never used them.

Re: Sizing battery
Kind of, I use a larger pad heater, 250 watts or so, then you get additional heat in the block from the warm oil. I have an immersion heater that threads into the plates I made, I just had trouble threading them, so had not made any in a while.

Re: Sizing battery
On the LH front side of the block or head, there is a football shaped plate with 2 bolts, and maybe a drain cocktail in it. I have a plate and a heater that goes in there, but had trouble threading the plates, so I quit making them.

Re: 350B WINCH instal with no pto lever
Referencing specifically straight and B model 350s, whether the crawler has a PTO lever or not does not matter. ALL 350's of these series could have either a PTO shaft, or a winch shaft. If you had a winch crawler, it has a winch shaft, simple as that. If you want to add a winch to a bare or PTO equ...

Re: shift pattern for jd 440
The one at the top of the pic is for all 440's with the transmission that has the dipstick on the top, or if you prefer, all 440 crawlers, gas and diesel built after 448,000.

Re: Sizing battery
From the factory, it probably had 600CCA or maybe a little more, but in that case size, not likely back then. 800CCA would be highly adequate, if the 1000CCA is the same price, I guess why not. Unless it has had N series pistons put in it, you are lucky it will fire at all at 30 degrees, so you have...

Re: 40c Roller interference
Bolts will work, only small issue is you will have a bolt head that you shoe can catch on, but that is very minor.

Re: 40c Roller interference
You can drill the holes in the clutch housings to 9/16 NF, and get the correct tapered nuts to put back on and that part will be fixed.

Re: JD 1010 1962 w/6 way blade
Last price I knew on the kits was a decade ago at least, and they were $1400 give or take. I fixed ours by brazing all the holes shut and rewelding, replacing any worn pins, new bushing around the T handle, and new thrust washer.

Re: 1959 440 dozer kicking out of 2nd gear
Tapered gears are heavy use and/or bad bearings. There are bearings inside of sone of the gears you can't see, and pieces won't fall out.

Re: 1959 440 dozer kicking out of 2nd gear
It is more than a lot of work unfortunately, remove everything attached to the transmission until all that is left is the transmission, then remove the transmission from the crawler, and then tear the transmission down. Its not rocket science, but not easy, and very time consuming. Will it keep runn...

Re: 1959 440 dozer kicking out of 2nd gear
Typically this is an indicator of bad bearings, tapered gears or both. Pull the top cover off of the trans and inspect the gears, check for play as much as is possible.
